Inspiration for Permanent Cosmetic Artist Came from a Dog Bite

People rarely consider dog bites to be fortunate events, but it turned out that this was just the case for Elsa Torresiani. At the tender age of 12, Elsa was attacked by a dog, and she had to go through extensive reconstructive surgery, resulting in a scar across her face. “It was horrible,” Elsa recalls, “Permanent makeup fixed this, which is what inspired me to learn the craft.” Elsa’s clients are glad that they have a professional artist, thanks to a tragic past.

Permanent Makeup as a Profession

Several businesses such as Avant Permanent Cosmetics provide permanent makeup courses to clients. Elsa herself is the head of the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP) Young Professionals Committee. To learn the craft of permanent makeup, a professional needs to go through several hours of training to figure out the best approach for each client. Every person that decides to do permanent makeup is unique, and the procedure needs to be adapted to each person on their own merit.

Fixing Facial Scars with Permanent Makeup

Elsa’s partner, Angela Torresiani, is a tattooist who also has a facial scar. The two met at a conference of professionals, and eventually, they hit it off. Permanent makeup offers several benefits to individuals who have facial scarring. The right artist can hide scars with semi-permanent pigmentation. The downside of these methods is that the coloration is temporary. Despite the name “permanent” cosmetics, they need to be reapplied every so often. Cosmopolitan notes that they’re an excellent option for women who hate to have to put on their makeup every day. However, it can have much more humanitarian applications.

Improving Self Esteem One Face At a Time

Facial scars are among the most damaging for a person’s self-esteem. While teeth and even noses can now be fixed with simple procedures, there was no easy way to get rid of facial scars for a long time. They would stick around and make you stand out from others, and not in a good way. Micro-pigmentation with the right colors and textures can serve as a semi-permanent fix for those who have long-lasting scars of an incident in their youth. Cosmetic tattooing and permanent makeup can help those people feel more relaxed in gatherings and less self-conscious about their appearance. There is some truth to the saying about if you look good, you feel good.

More Than Just Another Makeup Artist

Elsa and Angela have embarked on a professional venture together. Taking their love of tattooing and permanent makeup as the basis, the two have opened their own cosmetics and spa location in Great Kills. They are the embodiment of people who have benefitted from professionally applied cosmetic makeup. They hope to offer others the same service, perfecting their craft and bringing a little bit of peace of mind to others who may share the same issues they once did. Some may see it as giving back to the community, but for Elsa and Angela, they’re just doing something they enjoy. The fact that it helps others is just a bonus.
