From a post in ksurf eGroup:
From an interview with Sebastien (Catman) Cattelan in this month's Stance Sebastien (Catman) Cattelan who holds the current world record at 8.87 seconds flies wipikas. He did this record jump at Fuerte in 35 knots and 1 m waves using a Wipika 6.3 and a 142 x 34 board. The jump was 15 metres high and covered a distance of 200m. He also sez that in 2001 in Capo verde with another 32 atheletes competing he jumped up a 5 m wave with a wipi 8.4 he jumped as high as other competitors kites, strangely no one had a chronometer but hang time estimates were around 15 seconds. Catman tips 4 mega hang time A really efficent depower with the biggest range possible, 40m lines are better, kite should be trimmed so full power is with chicken loop at the bar. Big waves without chop is best, blast downwind for about 5 seconds before hitting wave, to resist the gusts hang your front arm out so the weight of your body is all back, crouch down, as you turn downwind fly the kite back depowered, pull down on the bar, edge the board and fly the kite forwards, timing is essential, after lift off check the position of the kite which should be at 10 ocklock for landing, stay hunched up in the air, extending your body just a moment before landing, don't forget to lean back against the pull of the kite. Only thing you shouldn't do, is try it near obstacles
